Budgie Toys No.312
Budgie No.312 Super Tip-Master
Issued 1964-66 Length 127mm
Using the cab and chassis of the earlier Bedford LWB Tipper (276), Budgie added a large silver-grey tipper body to create the Super Tip-Master.
The cab and chassis were separate castings so Budgie took the opportunity to paint them in different shades of green. The dark green cab carried silver trim detail on the grille, bumper and headlights and like the earlier Bedford it was fitted with windows only this time they were tinted green. The chassis, coloured a much paler green, provided housing for all three axles, the anchor point for the hydraulics and the hinge pin for the tipper at the rear.
With its distinctive flared topsides, the tipper could hold a large load. The top-hinged tailgate swung open automatically when the tipper was raised. On each side decals reading 'Super Tip-Master' were applied in special panels, and 'STM' decals were usually applied to the cab doors but were sometimes missed.
The Super Tip-Master was issued with two types of wheels, both metal. The first had domed or spun hubs with treaded tyres which were handy when playing in sand because they did not clog. Later these were replaced by ridged metal wheels, again with treaded tyres.
The standard box for the Super Tip-Master was the yellow Budgie end-flap box (B4) but it carried no descriptive panel. The model also appeared in blue & white window packs sealed in shrink-wrap (C2).
Although designed with play value in mind, the Tip-Master is not common and boxed examples are rare.
