Budgie No.454

RAC Motorcycle Patrol (Series 2)

Issued 1964-66    Length mm

For the Series 2 Motorcycle Patrol an entirely new model was devised based on a Triumph bike and incorporating the modernised sidecar then being introduced by the RAC.

The bike, still painted black but without any id. on this model, had unpainted metal wheels and black tyres. Silver trim was added to the headlight over which a detachable blue plastic screen fitted. There were also detachable blue plastic leg-guards which clipped onto the bike behind the front mudguard. The rider continued to be bright blue plastic with black boots and gloves, and with the RAC livery white helmet.

The streamlined sidecar retained an opening lid but no longer carried an aerial. It was all painted blue with an 'RAC' decal on the front and underneath 'RAC Patrol No.454 A Budgie Model Made in England' was cast. It was fixed to the bike via the rear axle and a front pin.

The Series 2 RAC Patrol had a revised box (B4) with a new illustration on the picture faces and on the end-flaps larger script and the correct number '454'.

These RAC models had a fairly short life and are quite scarce but usually can be found in good condition.
