Morestone 'Esso' Petrol Pump Series

No.19 Rover 105

Morestone Esso Petrol Pump Series No.19 Rover 105

The Rover 105R 'Rovermatic' car was launched in October 1956 with the first British-built automatic transmission. Morestone added their model as No.19 in the Esso Petrol Pump Series a year later. It had a long life being in production until 1970.

Manufactured for Morestone by Modern Products Ltd, the Rover was a well made but slightly dull model. It had a conventional body & base construction and standard unpainted metal wheels on flat-head & crimped axles.

Coloured green, the model was given silver trim on the grille, headlights and front & rear bumpers. The gloss black base had 'Rover 105 Rovermatic' and 'Made in England' on it with 'No.19' cast directly onto the flat base. Later re-issues had an altered base; details are on the Budgie Miniatures No.19 Rover 105 page.

Issued after the Garage Offer ended, No.19 Rover 105 had an Esso box with a large number in a circle on the base flap with a Tanker Coupon included inside.

Being well made and having a long life, the Rover is among the most common models in the Esso Series and mint models are not hard to find.
