Continuing the range of military models, Britains added the Sexton Self-Propelled Gun to the Lilliput Series in 1956 but it looked back to WW2 because the vehicle on which is was based, the Canadian built Sexton, dated from 1943 and had been fazed out of service with the British Army by 1956.

LV/611 was created using one substantial casting, which included the simulated tracks, to which was added the gun and two unusual metal wheels or runners underneath. 'Britains Ltd' and 'Made in England' were included in the casting.

 

The Sexton was designed without a base so in order to secure the gun and give it some movement, the body included a hole through which the gun axle was fitted. There was not much play in the gun but it did swing a little from side to side.

Underneath little unpainted wheels or wheeled rollers were integral with the axles and these were clamped at each end directly onto the body.

Apart from the wheels, the entire model was painted semi-matt Army-Green with just a spot of silver trim added to the tip of the barrel.

The Sexton Gun was sold in its own open fronted box with an internal diarama insert to which it was secured. Details of the model were printed on one of the end-flaps.

​

With poor detail and a dated look, the Sexton Gun was probably not a popular toy as it is quite scarce despite being on sale for four years. The box is hard to find.
