Britains Lilliput Vehicle Series

LV/617 Civilian Local Authority Ambulance

Issued 1956-1960    Length 75mm    'OO/HO' scale (1:76)

Britains continued to design new applications for the Fordson cab & chassis which had previously been used for LV/612 Army 1.5-Ton Truck and others. By creating a van-style or Luton body, three models were created of which the first was the Local Authority or Civilian Ambulance.

As with earlier models, the cab and chassis were one casting onto which the body was riveted. 'Britains Ltd' and 'England' were cast into the underside of the chassis. There was a plain base under the cab which on its upper side included a driver figure.

Both cab & chassis and the body of the Ambulance were painted in a cream colour with a black base including the driver who had pink or pale-tan face trim. Silver trim was added to the headlights and to the front bumper which was part of the base. On the body sides simple 'Ambulance' decals were attached. The wheels were the usual Lilliput red plastic hubs with black tyres.

The Ambulance was sold in the standard Lilliput open fronted box with inner diorama insert to which the model was secured. The model name and number were printed on one of the end-flaps.

The Ambulance is scarce and the box is very rare.
