No.26 Diesel Road Roller

Budgie Miniatures No.26 Diesel Roller

Following the Bedford models, Budgie continued the construction theme with No.26 Diesel Road Roller based on an Aveling-Barford vehicle which was a common sight at that time.

Issued in 1963, the model was similar to Lesney's No.1c Road Roller but without a rear 'hook' and with studded rear wheels. Inside 'Budgie Model 26' and 'Made in England' was cast and overall it measured 55mm.

Apart from the front roller housing, the body was a one-piece casting with a hollow centre. It was always painted mid-green including the driver but the inside remained unpainted.

The red painted metal rollers helped to give the model some extra weight. The front one was housed in a centrally mounted green holder and could be turned. The axles were flat-head with rounded ends.

There were no variations to the Road Roller and it was withdrawn in 1966.

Issued about five years after the Lesney version, Budgie No.26 was not a big seller and now is quite hard to find, especially in the original boxes and packs.
