The Daimler Ambulance was the last Morestone model to be sold under the Modern Products name and it followed the basic design of the earlier Police Car with a single body casting (painted either white or cream) and a large base onto which the wheels fitted without axles.

 

The body incorporated some nice detail with half-open side windows and the daimler emblem on the bonnet. The emblem, grille and headlights were trimmed with silver as were the roof signs at the front and rear. On the sides two cast crosses were picked out in red and red trim was added to the rear lights. An appealing feature of the Ambulance was that there were opening rear doors. These were metal and painted white or cream with the main body.

 

The silver-painted base was not particularly interesting to look at from the outside although it included the front bumper and a rudimentary representation of the drive shaft and axles with 'Made in England' cast alongside.

 

On the inside however, the silver base provided two 'beds' on each side of the ambulance and a driver at the front who was painted before the model was assembled in a black uniform with skin-colour for his face and hands. Occaisionally this was omitted so silver drivers can sometimes be found.

 

Like the Police Car, the Daimler Ambulance had metal wheels which clipped directly onto the base. They were finished with silver paint and fitted with black treaded rubber tyres.

 

The Ambulance was packed in a sturdy white end-flap box with illustrations of the model on two sides and 'Daimler Ambulance scale model' on the others. 'A Modern Product' was printed at each end.

 

The white variation of the Ambulance is easiest to find but both colours are fairly scarce and mint & boxed examples are quite rare.

 

In 1961 the Daimler Ambulance was re-issed in the Budgie Toys range as Budgie No.258 with revised castings, a red base, and with decals on the sides and roof.
