A107 Army Land Rover
Benbros produced several versions of the Land Rover in the Qualitoys range. The first was an open version (which they called a 'Jeep') in the Army Series (A101) which was followed by A107 Land Rover with an added roof and opening rear tail-lift.
As with the earlier model, the main body of A107 was a single hollow casting which included the figures of the driver and passenger except for their heads. These were added later before the full roof section which included a revised windscreen and the two sides of the model. At the rear a tailgate and a tail-lift were added and at the sides two opening doors.
On other Land Rover models, Benbros cast details such as 'Royal Mail' or 'AA Road Service' on the sides but because the A107 version is so rare, it is not known if anything was added to the Army model. What is known is that the picture on the shared box used for the Army Series shows plain sides.
Various casting details were included as part of the model like the front number plate 'TML 448' and underneath 'Benbros Qualitoy' and 'Made in England'. The wheels were painted metal with black tyres and there was an extra spare tyre on the bonnet.
Like other Army models, A107 Land Rover was painted dark-green including the metal wheels and the figures inside (who were possibly highlighted with face trim and black berets). The roof top was black and the front bumper (including the light) was silver or white. A regimental insignia was most likely added to the front near/side wing and in the centre of the roof a short spring-type aerial was fitted.
The Land Rover shared a multi-model box with other Army items. On all four sides there were pictures, names and numbers of the models. The red end-flaps carried the Qualitoys emblem and on one end there was a panel for the model details to be added.
A107 Army Land Rover is a very rare model.
