Benbros Qualitoys
Horse-Drawn Disc Harrow
Another of the ex-Timpo horse-drawn models was the Disc Harrow. When it appeared in the early 1950's it may have seemed a bit dated and not long afterwards Benbros adapted it to be towed by a tractor.
The frame and shafts were a single casting with a seat for the driver in the centre which the Disc Harrow shared with the Horse-drawn Roller. Under the seat, the previous Timpo name was blanked out and only 'Made in England' remained. There were nine unpainted discs, each individually cast, on a double-crimped axle.
Benbros painted the frame of the Horse-drawn Disc Harrow yellow and the land-girl driver was green or dark-green or black, usually with a black hat. The newly-cast horse was either brown in various shades or sometimes white, all with black trim.
Like several of the other horse-drawn models, there was probably no individual box for the Disc Harrow, it being sold instead from trade or 'counter' boxes containing several unboxed items.
As with the other horse-drawn ex-Timpo toys, the Benbros Disc Harrow is a rare model.
