Budgie Toys Gift Sets

From 1960 Budgie produced a small range of Gift Sets for both large-scale models and Budgie Miniatures. They were numbered according to the quantity of toys inside, Nos 4 & 5 for large-scale models and Nos. 8 & 12 for miniatures.

 

Budgie Toys Gift Set No.4 (Series 1)

Issued 1960 - 1962

Card box with illustrated lid with a black description panel and printed 'No.4'

The packing insert was made of white card with 'Budgie Toys' printed on the lower inner strip

The Set contained four large-scale Budgie Toys which varied according to availability

'Made in England by Morris & Stone (London) Ltd.'

Budgie Models Gift Set No.4 (Series 2)

Issued c.1963-66

Card box with blue & red lid with 'Budgie Diecast Models' and 'No.4' sticker (missing on box illustrated)

The inner packing had red & white card dividers with logo and 'Budgie Diecast Models' across the centre

The Set contained four large-scale Budgie Models which varied according to availability

'Made in England by the Budgie Division of S Guiterman & Co.Ltd'

Budgie Toys Gift Set No.5 (Series 1)

Issued 1960-c.1963

Card box with illustrated lid and black description panel and printed 'No.5'

Two versions of the lid were produced, the first with yellow sides and folded construction, the second with white sides and stapled corners (see illustrations below)

The inner packing and divisions were white or cream-coloured card. 'Budgie' was printed on lower right-hand divider

In later sets a simplified card insert seems to have been used without the 'Budgie' name

No.5 Set contained five large-scale Budgie Toys Nos. 202, 220, 226, 230, 234 (in later sets the contents varied)

The inner packing had white card dividers and a small box containing drums for the Articulated Cable Truck

(In the illustration below the card dividers have been replaced by wood)

Inner 'drawer' had a brown & white insert with brick motif and 'Budgie' on centre divider

Contents were Miniatures Nos.5, 8, 11, 12, 13, 15, 18, 19

Contents were Miniatures Nos.5, 7, 8, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 19, 20

Some late Sets had the same models with updated colours & wheels in boxes with compartment-style packing
