Dublo Dinky Toys
068 Royal Mail Van

Issued 1959-1964 1:76 scale OO/HO gauge
One of the most appealing models in the Dublo range is the little Royal Mail Van. It is an excellent representation of the ubiquitous Morris Minor Vans which were such a common sight all over the UK during the 1950's & 60's.
Always coloured red with Royal Mail decals on each side, the models were the first in the Dublo collection to have windows. Otherwise, they followed the style of earlier models in having a flat pressed-steel or 'tinplate' base with flanges for the axles. 'Dublo Dinky Toys Royal Mail Van Meccano England' was etched on the base which was secured with two rivets, one at the front and one at the rear, and there was a rear tab to represent the numberplate. Silver trim was added to the front grille, headlights and bumper.
Both types of wheel on the Mail Van were treaded as Dinky had dropped the smooth type by this stage. The first were grey treaded plastic and the second black treaded plastic.
The single box used for the Royal Mail Van was one of the smallest in the Dublo range. It was an end-flap type with pictures of the model on two sides.
Finding examples of the Royal Mail Van is not hard although the variation with black wheels is a little more scarce.
