Morestone 'Esso' Petrol Pump Series

No.2 RAC Motorcycle Patrol

Morestone Esso Petrol Pump Series No.2 RAC Motorcycle Patrol

The second model in the Esso Petrol Pump Series was almost identical to the first one but this time it was painted in RAC (Royal Automobile Association) livery and had a different sidecar casting.

No.2 RAC Motorcycle Patrol was made up of six separate castings: the motorcycle, screen, rider, sidecar, lid and wheels, all shared with the AA version except for a new sidecar which now had a rounded front and the RAC logo cast on it.

The RAC colour was blue but the motorcycle was black without trim, the screen white, the sidecar and lid blue with the rails picked out in black, and the rider in dark-blue including his cap. His face was finished with flesh-coloured trim and he was wearing long white gloves (or gauntlets). The wheels were unpainted metal with spokes. 'Made in England' was cast inside the lid of the sidecar. The length was 46mm.

Like the AA motorcycle, the RAC version did not have a long life, probably little more than a year, and there were no variations. It was not included in the Budgie Miniatures range.

It had two boxes, the first with the Garage Offer on the base flap, the second with the Offer overstamped and a large number added. Both included Garage Coupons.

No.2 RAC Motorcycle Patrol is quite scarce and mint boxed examples rare.
