076 & 078 Lansing Bagnall Tractor & Trailers

Issued 1960-1964/66 1:76 scale OO/HO gauge
The Lansing Bagnall Tractor & Trailer was the only Dublo model designed solely for a model railway layout. The real vehicle was usually electric powered and was a familiar sight at stations.
The little Tractor was cleverly cast in two sections, the body and the driver unit, which were held together by being fixed to the front axle. Above the rear axle, room was also found for the tow-hook which was rivetted on. The body of the tractor was coloured dark red and the seats, driver and steering wheel blue, with the driver having a dab of pink on his face and hands.
The trailer was a simple flat-bed with a tow-hook at the rear and at the front a centrally pivoted tinplate frame holding the axle and the metal towbar, all of which enabled the front axle to turn when being pulled. Both tractor and trailer had small, chunky black plastic wheels.
Dinky sold the model in a bright yellow end-flap box with red bands at each end and pictures on two sides.
To increase the play value of the model in a railway layout, Dublo also sold additional trailers separately in boxes of six. These were numbered 078 and described as 'Six Trailers (Lansing Bagnall)'. The box was a plain yellow one without illustrations but it kept the red bands.
The 076 Tractor & Trailers ended production in 1964 when Meccano ceased trading under the take-over by Tri-ang but the 078 Trailers continued to be made until 1966.
Lansing Bagnall models are not hard to find but are often playworn. Mint boxed examples are scarce.
