Budgie Miniatures
No.20b Emergency Vehicle
In 1968 three new Budgie Miniatures were introduced using the numbers 20, 21 & 22 from discontinued models. The first was 20b Emergency Vehicle. It was in fact not new but a re-issue in a different finish of No.15 Austin Countryman Station Wagon. It was not based on any real 'Emergency' vehicle.
It was made by Modern Products Ltd. who then owned the Budgie Models name.
Painted white without any trim and with a red base, the Austin Emergency Vehicle was distinctive in having an orange or red beacon on the roof and an 'Emergency' decal above the windscreen.
The original No.15 base was re-cast to change the lettering to 'Austin A95 Emergency Vehicle' with the usual 'Made in England'. The 'No.20' at the rear had the number on a raised square.
Fitted on rivetted axles, the black plastic wheels were a little small for the model making it sit quite low.
No.20b Emergency Vehicle was sold in blue blister-packs carrying the makers name as Budgie Models Ltd. and it was also included in the triple blister-pack No.95b Town Set. In America it was issued in World Toy House packs.
No.20b was withdrawn when the Modern Products business was sold in 1970 and production of diecast models ceased.
