Dublo Dinky Toys
061 Ford Prefect

Issued 1958-1960 1:76 scale 'OO/HO' gauge
Dinky's first model in the Dublo numbering system was the Ford Prefect but in fact it was the fourth model in the range to be issued. The real car was a modest four-door family saloon which had first had appeared on British roads in 1953 so it was a common sight by 1958.
The Dublo Ford Prefect model was a standard 'body-and-base' design without any special features such as windows or opening doors but the casting included surface detail of the front grille, headlights, side doors, and the rear boot, number plate and so on. It was painted a plain brown or dark beige colour with silver trim added to the grille and both front and rear bumpers.
As with many of the Dublo models, the base was a black pressed-steel or 'tinplate' sheet which slotted onto the body with a tab at the front (representing the number plate) and a rivet behind the rear axle. On each side of the base there were flanges through which the two axles fitted. On the base, 'Dublo Dinky Toys Ford Prefect Meccano Ltd Made in England' was etched.
The wheels on the Prefect were always grey plastic with a smooth rim.
There was only one box used for the Ford Prefect, the standard bright yellow Dublo one with red bands at either end and a colour image of the model on both faces.
It is not hard to collect good boxed examples of the Ford Prefect as it is quite a common model.
