Issued 1959-1964   1.76 scale   OO/HO gauge

With the Articulated Truck, Dinky created a second Bedford vehicle and coupled it to a flat-bed trailer making a versatile toy with good play value. The model was based on the Bedford 'A-Series' lorries.

The cab was a single hollow casting painted mustard yellow and fitted with clear windows which were secured with a central rivet in the cab roof. On the front, silver trim was added to the grille, headlights and bumper. Underneath, 'Dublo Dinky Toys' was cast and the numbers '1' or '3' added beneath the bonnet.

The trailer was a simple flat-bed with a small headboard and fixed dolly wheels. It was painted red and underneath 'Made in England Dublo Dinky Toys Bedford Articulated Flat Truck Meccano Ltd' was included in the casting. The design and size of the trailer enabled it to carry container loads used on the Hornby Railways Low-Sided Wagon No.4648 so it was a good addition to a model railways layout.

For the coupling the cab had two asymetric guidelines and a hole in the casting so that when reversed into the trailer, the 'T' unit on the trailer slid up and into the hole. It was a neat design and fun to play with, particularly if the trailer was loaded with a container.

All three types of wheel were used on the Articulated Bedford, smooth and treaded grey plastic and treaded black plastic and both cab and trailer always had the same type.

Two box variations appeared with the model, the first a yellow end-flap one with the usual red bands at each end and pictures of the model on two sides. The model name was printed in black below each image and also in black on one of the end-flaps.

The second box was an all-yellow one too and kept the red bands but the pictures of the model were dropped and the printing was entirely in red including the model name on one end-flap. This box was primarily used for the variation with black wheels.

The Articulated Bedford is not scarce but models are often playworn so mint examples are quite hard to find, especially the last variation with black wheels and in its correct box.
